Car Hire
A mini guide to the pros & cons of car hire
Car Hire is another option to get you (and your family or business associates) to and from the airport. We have had articles online about 4 different options for getting you there (airport parking, coaches, trains, taxis), but never included a guide to car hire.
Price
Car hire is a relatively cheap option if you are planning a trip abroad for more then a week. For example, if you would pick up a small hire car from Bristol, and drop it off at London Gatwick, it would only cost you roughly 40 pounds. A slightly bigger car with some more luggage space would cost you around 65 GBP, and a luxury car to impress those business associates of yours sets you back a little over 100 GBP. Usually these rates are inclusive, which means they have collision damage waiver insurance and personal accident insurance included, but make sure to check this before you book. Ofcourse, since you will need to get back home when you return, you need to multiply all costs involved by a factor 2.
Comfort
For some people, comfort is a good reason to book a rental car and drive it to the airport. You arrive at the airport, drop off your vehicle, and walk your way to the terminal. Make sure to arrive slightly earlier then you normally would, since inspection of your vehicle at the time of dropoff might take a few minutes.
Convenience and Reliability
Other then possible traffic jams, you can schedule the time of arrival and departure yourself, which gives you a greater level of convenience then you would get if you'd take the bus, train or taxi. The rental cars are usually brand new, so the level of reliablity is usually very high.
Security
Security is not really an issue here, since you'll pick up the vehicle, drive it to the airport, and drop it off. There is no need to park, with the possibility of becoming a target for those with bad intentions.
Conclusion
Car hire might not be the cheapest option, but it sure is comfortable! For cheap car hire, you might want to try out EasyTerra's car hire services.
